Michael Gordon Clifford was born on November 20, 1995, in Sydney, Australia. An Australian musician, he is famous as the lead guitarist and vocalist for the pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer. He was brought up by his parents, Karen and Daryl Clifford, as an only child and has turned into one of the most successful Australian musicians of modern times with the band.

Early Life and Education

Clifford went to Norwest Christian College, which is also where he met future band members Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood. He didn't like Hemmings at first, but they became great friends and a musical collaboration soon started.

Later on, Ashton Irwin joined through mutual friends. Clifford never finished mainstream schooling but dropped out in Year 10 due to irregular attendance and instead attended TAFE.

Music Career and 5 Seconds of Summer

In 2011, Clifford, along with Hemmings and Hood, began posting song covers on YouTube; soon, many people started noticing them. Ashton Irwin joined them, forming what would become the lineup of 5 Seconds of Summer. They eventually signed a deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, then Capitol Records.

Their self-titled 2014 album received widespread acclaim, topped the charts, and was followed by "Sounds Good Feels Good" in 2015, "Youngblood" in 2018, "Calm" in 2020, and "5SOS5" in 2022. To date, 5SOS has sold over 10 million albums worldwide, and their music streams total over seven billion plays, making them one of Australia’s most successful musical exports. Part of Clifford’s distinctive style has included his ever-changing hair colors.
